Noda's picture of Yuri in Ep. 11

Can we just take a moment and appreciate the idea that maybe Noda's in the Afterlife because of Yuri? I mean, I'm sure he had reasons originally, but for all we know, he might have made peace with his previous life a long time ago, but only sticks around so that he can be with Yuri. In the end, maybe he only left the Afterlife because it was what Yuri wanted.

That's quite a guess actually. I'd like to think of it that way now that you mention it. It's a very Noda-thing to do. Considering that he is actually pretty carefree and transparent that he will probably not hold much grudge for what had caused his death in the first place after knowing Yuri.

Actually, he firsts meets Yuri in the underground tunnels of the Guild along with the other first members of the unofficial Afterlife Battlefront and he simply just got smitten by Yuri by something she said that made him like her. From there on he blindly follows Yuri after defeating the Boss(Shiina) who Noda says he has been fighting with for quite some time by himself which then Yuri offers him to join her team and fight Kanade.

Judging from Noda's personality, he has a strength insecurity which may relate to why he is in the Afterlife in the first place. Noda tries to become stronger by training, picking fights, and acting tough making him an idiot in intellect. It could be that Noda was unable to protect something when he was alive because he wasn't strong enough. He even shows this in a humorous scene where he is bloodily murdered by Yusa by writing on the ground where he laid saying he was the strongest in his own blood. Judging from how he easily fell for Yuri, I don't think she has any involvement with his reason for arriving in the afterlife. I don't even think this "thing" he wanted to protect is no where similar to Yuri in character or interest.

I also found it funny when he assumed Yuri was Chaa's wife because of a misunderstanding in the conversation and he ran away crying. I love that bloody muscle head idiot. Oh my goodness, I have to read that chapter again!

Maybe he was unable to protect his mother at one point because of his condition? (being a hikikomori that is) One thing I've been thinking about for a long  time is how different Noda is in the manga compared to the anime. In the manga Noda seem a lot more innocent in his behaviour, violent but in a silly sort of way, while in the anime he's even more loud, aggressive, and well, insane. Maybe he hardened as the Sss became more serious? Or maybe him realizing that the afterlife isn't a game made him bitter about his life?

It's completely possible. Shiina is like that. Only remaining in the afterlife because Yuri didn't want to disappear.
